A Saturday Aidilfitri, and what a Saturday costs you
Aidilfitri 2023 fell on Saturday 22 April, the placement that quietly costs employees the most. The automatic Monday off applies when a public holiday falls on your rest day, usually Sunday. A holiday on a non-working day, which is what Saturday is on a five-day week, does not roll forward. Your employer owes you either another day off or one extra day's salary at the gross rate of pay, and which one you get is the employer's call, not yours (MOM). So 2023 produced no long weekend at Aidilfitri, only an entitlement to chase.
Hari Raya Haji on Thursday 29 June was the better-shaped of the two: one day of leave on the Friday bought four days off.
