Hari Raya Haji in Singapore: 2026 & 2027 Dates, Korban & Aidiladha
Hari Raya Haji, or Aidiladha, is the second of Singapore's two gazetted Hari Raya holidays — the quieter one, about two months and ten days after Hari Raya Puasa. It marks the completion of the Haj pilgrimage in Mecca and the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice in obedience to God.
Because it isn't a visiting festival like Aidilfitri, it's the easier of the two to under-plan. This page is the short version of what people look up — the date, what the day marks, and the one thing that needs acting on early — with links to the pages that go deeper on each.
When is Hari Raya Haji in Singapore?
| Year | Date | Day |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 27 May 2026 | Wednesday |
| 2027 | 17 May 2027 | Monday |
Both are gazetted public holidays, taken from the official dates on data.gov.sg. Hari Raya Haji falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic year, on the day pilgrims completing the Haj perform their own sacrifice in Mina.
Because it follows the lunar calendar, it moves about 11 days earlier each year against the Gregorian calendar, and Singapore fixes the date by MUIS's calculated crescent-visibility method rather than by naked-eye sighting — the same method used for Hari Raya Puasa. The full public-holiday list for each year is on the 2026 and 2027 pages.
What Aidiladha marks
The story behind the day is the command to Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, his readiness to obey, and God substituting a ram in the son's place. Aidiladha remembers that obedience, and the korban re-enacts the substitution: livestock is sacrificed and the meat shared, keeping none of it back for profit.
It coincides with the Haj, the pilgrimage every Muslim who is able is called to make once in a lifetime. That is why the two share a name in Malay — haji — even though most people marking the day in Singapore are not on the pilgrimage themselves.
For how this differs from the larger Aidilfitri celebration that ends Ramadan, see Hari Raya Puasa vs Hari Raya Haji.
The korban — book it early
The one thing about Hari Raya Haji that needs acting on ahead of time is the korban (the sacrifice): in Singapore you take part by booking a share through a mosque, and slots close well before the day. That booking window — not the holiday date — is the deadline that matters.
We cover how a share works, where the sacrifice is carried out, and how to sign up in the Qurban in Singapore guide.
Is Hari Raya Haji a public holiday?
Yes. It is one of Singapore's gazetted public holidays, so it is a paid day off for employees covered by the Employment Act, and if it falls on your rest day you are entitled to a day off in lieu or an extra day's pay.
The day itself is low-key compared with Aidilfitri. The morning centres on the Aidiladha prayer at the mosque, followed by the korban; there is none of the extended house-visiting that fills the days after Hari Raya Puasa. Government offices and schools are closed; most malls, shops and eateries stay open as on any public holiday.
Greetings
The simplest greeting is "Selamat Hari Raya Haji" or "Selamat Aidiladha" — both work, and neither requires you to be Muslim to offer it warmly. You do not add "maaf zahir dan batin" here; that forgiveness-seeking belongs to Aidilfitri.
Common questions
When is Hari Raya Haji 2026 in Singapore? Wednesday, 27 May 2026. In 2027 it falls on Monday, 17 May 2027.
Why is it about two months after Hari Raya Puasa? They mark different things. Puasa (Aidilfitri) ends the fasting month of Ramadan; Haji (Aidiladha) falls in Dhul Hijjah, roughly two months and ten days later, on the day of the Haj sacrifice.
Do I have to do korban? Korban is strongly encouraged for those who can afford it, not compulsory for everyone. Most who take part do so by booking a share through a mosque rather than sacrificing an animal themselves.
Can I still sign up close to the day? Often not — programmes fill and close ahead of the holiday. Treat the booking window, not the holiday date, as the deadline that matters.
Is it "Hari Raya Haji" or "Aidiladha"? Both refer to the same day. Hari Raya Haji is the common Malay name in Singapore; Aidiladha (Eid al-Adha) is the Arabic name.
For anything on how korban is organised or observed, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) is the authority. This guide is a plain-English overview, not a religious ruling.
